E-rickshaw lithium battery price list in India (November 2026)

In short

On 1 November 2026, lithium packs in the 48V and 51.2V class used in e-rickshaws were listed at about ₹42,000 to ₹65,000, or roughly ₹8,800 to ₹12,100 per kWh of rated energy. A set of four 12V lead-acid batteries cost about ₹36,000 to ₹48,000, so lead-acid is cheaper on the day you buy it. A battery bought on its own carries 18% GST, and PM E-DRIVE support comes with the purchase of a registered e-rickshaw; we found none for a replacement battery.

Lithium packs in the 48V and 51.2V class used in e-rickshaws were listed at about ₹42,000 to ₹65,000 on 1 November 2026, on one battery maker's own website and the marketplace listings we checked. One list price (MRP), for a Tata Green model marked Coming Soon, reached ₹73,954. Per kWh, the listings with full specs work out to about ₹8,800 to ₹12,100, so compare quotes by energy as well as by price.

Key Takeaways

  • Lead-acid is cheaper upfront: a set of four 12V batteries cost about ₹36,000 to ₹48,000 on the same day. Lithium sellers claim 4–7 years of life against 1–2 years for lead-acid, and those claims come from companies that sell lithium.
  • A lithium battery bought on its own carries 18% GST. PM E-DRIVE support (₹2,500 per kWh, up to ₹12,500, as of the FY2025-26 revision) goes with a registered e-rickshaw purchase.
  • Before you pay, get the AIS-156 Phase II certificate, the charge voltage, the connector type and the warranty terms in writing.
  • One report (91trucks, August 2025) describes a government plan to require lithium-ion batteries in new e-rickshaw models, with stricter design rules from April 2027. We found no final notification as of 1 November 2026.

These are asking prices for lithium packs in the 48V and 51.2V class sold for e-rickshaws. Tata Green's prices come from its own website. The other rows are marketplace listings, recorded as price observations on the date shown, and they are not recommendations. The ₹ per kWh column is our calculation: voltage × Ah ÷ 1,000 gives kWh, and the price divided by kWh gives the figure.

Tata Green marks both lithium models "Coming Soon" and gives no voltage, Ah or warranty for them. The L&T-SuFin listing is for a 51.2V 105Ah pack, the size Adwin and Trontek price for e-rickshaws; we did not confirm that the listing itself names e-rickshaws. Check whether any listed price includes GST and a charger before you compare it with another.

Three battery companies publish price ranges in their own buying guides. These are sellers' figures, but they fall in the same band as the listings.

E-rickshaw battery price: lithium vs lead-acid

Lead-acid costs less to buy. A 48V lead-acid set is four 12V batteries in series, and these 12V units were listed on the same IndiaMART page on 1 November 2026.

12V lead-acid batteryWarrantyPrice per unitSet of four₹ per kWh of rated energy (our calculation)
140Ah1 year₹9,000₹36,000about ₹5,360
Okaya tubular 140Ah12 months₹9,240₹36,960about ₹5,500
Teqno 160Ah18 months₹11,580₹46,320about ₹6,030
Tuff Bull 130Ah1 year₹12,000₹48,000about ₹7,690

Adwin's guide gives a wider range: ₹25,000–45,000 for a set of about four, and ₹40,000–60,000 for a premium tubular set (Adwin). Trontek puts a 51V 105Ah lead-acid set at ₹49,000–60,000 (Trontek).

So per kWh of rated energy, the lead-acid sets above cost about ₹5,400 to ₹7,700, and the lithium listings about ₹8,800 to ₹12,100. Which one costs less over time depends on how many years each lasts on your route, and the only life figures available come from sellers.

48V or 51.2V e-rickshaw lithium battery

Both ratings are sold for the same 48V e-rickshaws. LFP cells are 3.2V nominal, so 15 cells in series make a 48V pack and 16 make a 51.2V pack. At the same Ah, the 51.2V pack holds about 7% more energy, which is another reason to compare quotes per kWh. It also charges higher, to 57.6V, so the charger and the controller's voltage limits must suit it. Our guide to lithium batteries for telecom towers explains 15-cell and 16-cell packs and their voltage ranges in more detail.

What sets an e-rickshaw lithium battery price

The listings above differ most in energy (kWh), and the other factors are items you can check on a quote. Servotech, which sells e-three-wheeler batteries, says cost "depends on voltage rating, amp-hour capacity, cell chemistry, and lifecycle performance" (Servotech).

  • Energy (kWh). More kWh means more cells. A 51.2V 132Ah pack holds 6.76 kWh, about a quarter more than a 51.2V 105Ah pack at 5.38 kWh.
  • Cells. Chemistry and rated cycle life change the price. Ask which cells the pack uses and for its cycle rating with the depth of discharge (DoD) it was tested at.
  • Battery management system (BMS). The BMS protects the cells against overcharging, deep discharge and heat. Trontek's guide estimates that a BMS adds ₹5,000–8,000 to the price. Some packs also let you read the BMS on a phone app.
  • AIS-156 Phase II certification. The tests and parts it requires are listed below.
  • Water protection. AIS-156 tests the pack for water ingress to IP X7 at 100% charge (our AIS-156 guide), which matters on flooded monsoon roads.
  • Warranty. Warranty length moves the price. Our Gati quotes, for example, depend on whether you choose 3 or 5 years. In the list above, the Daewoo pack carries 36 months and the Lithium India pack 3 years.
  • Charger. A lithium pack needs a lithium charger set to its charge voltage. Some packs are sold without one, including ours, so ask for the price with and without it.

AIS-156 Phase II certification

AIS-156 is the Indian battery safety standard for L-category electric vehicles. Its battery safety amendments came in two phases: Phase I from 1 December 2022 and Phase II (also written Phase 2) from 31 March 2023 (The Tribune).

Phase I added traceability of the pack, cells, BMS and charger, a microprocessor-based BMS with protections, an extra fuse and spacing between cells. Phase II added:

  • cell testing to IS 16893, the Indian standard for EV lithium-ion cells, at an NABL-accredited (nationally accredited) lab;
  • EMC (electrical interference) testing to AIS-004;
  • four temperature sensors in the pack;
  • a thermal propagation test, which checks how heat from one failing cell spreads through the pack;
  • a warning light and sound for a thermal event (EVreporter).

Each of these adds parts or lab tests that the maker pays for.

GST on an e-rickshaw lithium battery

GST 2.0 cut the rate on other battery types from 28% to 18% and left lithium-ion batteries (heading 8507) at 18% (pv magazine India). That is the rate on a replacement pack. The Daewoo listing shows it in practice: ₹9,949 of GST on a pre-tax price of ₹55,274.

A new e-rickshaw is taxed at 5%, with or without a battery, according to a West Bengal advance ruling of 9 September 2026 (order 13/WBAAR/2026-27, citing entry 441 of Schedule I to Notification 09/2025-Central Tax (Rate), as reported by TaxHeal). An advance ruling binds only the applicant, so read it as an illustration and check your own case with a tax adviser.

PM E-DRIVE subsidy for e-rickshaws

PM E-DRIVE supports the purchase of registered e-rickshaws and e-carts. In the FY2025-26 revision, the incentive was set at ₹2,500 per kWh, up to ₹12,500 per vehicle, and no more than 15% of the ex-factory price where that is lower. In FY2024-25 it was ₹5,000 per kWh, up to ₹25,000 (Energetica India). For a vehicle with a 5.38 kWh battery, ₹2,500 × 5.38 comes to ₹13,450, so the ₹12,500 cap applies.

Vehicles priced above ₹2.5 lakh ex-factory are not eligible. A notification of 27 March 2026 extended the scheme for e-rickshaws and e-carts to 31 March 2028 (CMV360; listed on MHI's PM E-DRIVE notifications page). We could not confirm the rate for later years from the official notification, so check it with the dealer.

The incentive goes with a registered vehicle. We found nothing in the scheme for a replacement battery bought on its own. If a seller offers a "subsidy" on a replacement pack, ask which rule it comes from.

Will new e-rickshaws need lithium batteries?

A lithium-only rule for new e-rickshaws is planned, per one report. In August 2025, 91trucks reported a government plan under which new e-rickshaw models must use lithium-ion batteries and lead-acid will no longer be permitted. The same report describes stricter design rules from April 2027, plant audits before a model is approved, and fitness certificates valid for one year (91trucks). It names no ministry or notification number, and we found no final notification as of 1 November 2026.

Such a rule would reach a large market. India sold 4,77,765 e-rickshaws and 86,466 e-carts in FY2025-26, based on Vahan and Telangana data (EVreporter). Until a final rule is published, AIS-156 Phase II is the certificate to check on any lithium pack you buy.

E-rickshaw lithium battery life and range per charge

Every figure in this section comes from a company that sells lithium e-rickshaw batteries, ourselves included. Treat them as manufacturers' claims and test them against your own route and load. We found no independent figure for how far e-rickshaws in India drive in a day.

Taken at face value, Trontek's figures mean two to five lead-acid sets over one lithium pack's life. Seltrik claims lithium pays back its higher price in 18–36 months at 70–120 km a day, and Adwin claims 24–36 months at 70 km or more a day.

Halovolt Gati 105 and Gati 132 e-rickshaw batteries

We make two batteries for e-rickshaws, also called battery rickshaws. Both are 51.2V LFP packs that fit most 48V models, and both are priced on request because the price depends on the quantity and the warranty you choose.

IP67 shares the water digit of the IP X7 test in AIS-156. Each pack is rated for 4,000 cycles at 80% DoD and handles 100 A of charge and discharge current. Each has a Bluetooth app and an Anderson SB100 connector. The charger is sold separately: use a lithium charger set to 57.6V. On a 100 A charger, the Gati 105 charges fully in about 1 hour. Range depends on the load, the route and how the vehicle is driven.

Each product page has a quote form. Send your e-rickshaw's make and controller details with it and we will confirm the fit before you order. Fleet owners and vehicle makers can use the OEM quote form. For one Ahmedabad cargo e-rickshaw dealer, we built more than 100 custom 60.8V 132Ah LFP packs. Our Technology page shows how the packs are built. For L5 e-autos, see the Gati Auto 210. Buying for a scooter instead? See our electric scooter battery price guide.

Checklist before you buy an e-rickshaw lithium battery

  1. AIS-156 Phase II certificate. Ask for the certificate for the exact pack model, not a family of products.
  2. Voltage and controller match. Confirm whether the pack is 48V or 51.2V, and get its charge voltage and low-voltage cut-off. Check them against your controller's limits with the vehicle or pack maker.
  3. Connector. Match the pack's connector to your vehicle's wiring, or agree who changes it.
  4. Charger. Find out whether one is included and that it is set to the pack's charge voltage.
  5. Warranty terms in writing. Get the years, whether a failed pack is replaced or pro-rated, and what counts as the end of the battery's life.
  6. BMS app. Ask what the app shows, such as charge level and faults, before you count it as a feature.
  7. Service. Find out where the nearest service point is and who collects the battery for a warranty claim. For our batteries, warranty claims go through Support.
  8. Old battery. Under the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, producers carry collection and recycling targets and register on the CPCB EPR portal. Ask the seller whether it will take back your lead-acid set.

Frequently asked questions

What is the price of a lithium battery for an e-rickshaw in India?

On 1 November 2026, lithium packs in the 48V and 51.2V class used in e-rickshaws were listed at about ₹42,000 to ₹65,000 on the maker and marketplace pages we checked. That works out to about ₹8,800 to ₹12,100 per kWh of rated energy. Listings differ on whether GST and a charger are included, so compare like with like.

Does an e-rickshaw lithium battery price include the charger?

Not always. Some lithium packs are sold without a charger, including Halovolt's Gati range. A 51.2V LFP pack needs a lithium charger set to 57.6V, so ask every seller for a price with and without one.

Is there a subsidy on an e-rickshaw lithium battery?

Under the FY2025-26 revision, PM E-DRIVE paid ₹2,500 per kWh, up to ₹12,500 per vehicle, for registered e-rickshaws and e-carts. A March 2026 notification extended the scheme for these vehicles to 31 March 2028. We could not confirm the rate for later years from the official notification, so check it with the dealer. The support goes with a vehicle purchase, and we found no subsidy for a replacement battery bought on its own.

Can I replace the lead-acid batteries in my battery rickshaw with lithium?

Often yes, if the lithium pack's voltage, connector and charger suit the vehicle. Lithium packs for 48V e-rickshaws are sold as 48V or 51.2V, and the charger must match the pack's charge voltage. Send the vehicle's make and controller details to the pack maker and ask it to confirm the fit before you buy.

How long does an e-rickshaw lithium battery last?

Sellers claim 4 to 7 years for an LFP e-rickshaw battery, against 1 to 2 years for lead-acid. These are manufacturers' claims and real life depends on daily distance, load and charging. Halovolt's Gati packs are rated for 4,000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge, with a 3-year or 5-year warranty.
